![]() How does your colorblindness help-or hinder-your work as a photographer? All of this, along with its sheer beauty inspire me every day. They are literal waves of energy that move through water and they never repeat themselves! There's no re-shoot, ever! No rewinding or second chances. What is it that inspires you about waves? The shape it takes on, the textures, the “feeling” of it. The more I evolved in my work the more I concentrated on just how delicate and beautiful water can be. Even in my earliest work, the “human” element was only to give the wave scale and composure. Looking back it was the entry point to waves. How did this evolve into just focusing on the waves? You bought your first camera to document friends surfing. At any stage of life, at any time, during any emotion-it is there for me. The Ocean has been the one single constant in my life. For me, this was beaches, cliffs, and coves that dot the landscape of where I live. We've always lived near the coastline-most Australians do-and as a child, you tend to explore your immediate surroundings. How did growing up in Australia form your relationship with the sea? We had the chance to speak with the sought after photographer about what sparked his love for the ocean and how he captures the essence of waves. His second book, Water & Light moves from Iceland to Tahiti, all in the name of photographing the ocean and he was recently featured in the documentary Fish People, which is now viewable on Netflix. And the artistic visuals of his photography have allowed him to dabble both in the commercial and fine art worlds.Ĭollins is constantly pushing his work, traveling around the world to immortalize waves. His photography shows the unique power of water, lovingly captured to show this element in every stage of life-from calm and languid to rough and clamorous. I wish we had looked around more for another photographer, because we sure can't go back and redo anything.Collins, who bought his first camera in 2007 and left a job as a coal miner to pursue his passion, has collaborated with National Geographic, Vogue, Patagonia, Apple, and Nikon. There was zero attention paid to details like cropping or fading backgrounds. She took 3 months to give us a USB (no actual photographs), and I honestly can't understand why, since what we got was no more than snap shots. Her photographs were uninspired, and when it was all said and done, she never got a formal shot of just the bride and groom together, facing the camera, without anyone else in the picture. So she missed the bride/groom departure all together. For $400/hour she was willing to stay until it's conclusion. She was expensive to begin with, and then left the reception before it was over. Her "package" ended up being for only 6 hours and super pricey, when, in fact, the getting ready/wedding/reception took about 8. In just trying to keep to the bigger points of our disappointment, she is way over priced for her level of experience. We can't wait to share prints with our family for the holidays. Keeping Composure also offers many print options, from albums to prints to keepsakes. Going through the photos puts smiles on our faces every time. There were so many photos that we didn't even know she taken but were so pleased to have. They were truly gorgeous and Emily captured all of the happiness that we felt on that day. Upon receiving our Keeping Composure photos, we were completely blown away. We are not the most comfortable people in front of the camera, but Emily made us feel completely at ease. As a result, we did not have to worry about anything photography-related on the day of our wedding and we knew that Emily would take care of everything and get the shots we had discussed. Emily worked with us in the months prior to the wedding to select the package that was the best option for us and so that everything was prepared for the day. Emily is an amazing photographer, and we are so glad that we chose Keeping Composure as our wedding photography vendor. ![]()
